IS Student Alejandra Escoto Receives 2017 Dean's Achievement Award
Alejandra Escoto is an International Studies-Global Health major who grew up in Des Moines. As an undergraduate student she participated in community-based research as an Undergraduate Project Coordinator on the Hombres Necios research project in Ottumwa, and a Research Intern for HEAL (Health Equity Advancement Lab). She also completed an international internship in Cluj, Romania during which she studied access to mental health care in oncology settings in southeastern Europe. For two years she was the resident assistant for the Global Mosaic Living Learning Community, and she previously served as a Center for Diversity and Enrichment peer mentor, and a Spanish and Biology tutor for TRIO Student Support Services. Continuing toward her goal of making a difference in the fight against health disparities, Alejandra has been accepted to the University of Iowa Master’s in Public Health Program in Community and Behavioral Health.
