About Supervisor Training @ Iowa

The University recently announced Supervisor Training @Iowa, a required training program for UI employees who have the direct responsibility of supervising others, also referred to as being an Administrative Supervisor. This requirement applies to CLAS, where we have approximately 150 supervisors, including more than 80 faculty members who will be required to complete the training in 2020. If you are receiving this email, you have been identified as a supervisor within CLAS required to complete the training.

The Supervisor Training @ Iowa content includes approximately 4.5 hours of content, consisting of an overview section and these modules:

  • Recruiting, Hiring, and Onboarding
  • Engagement and Retention
  • Facilitating Performance and Coaching

To meet the requirement in CLAS, we will be conducting and requiring in-person (Zoom) Supervisor Training @Iowa sessions. Our sessions will be co-facilitated by a member of the CLAS HR team and a member of the UI HR team. The in-person (Zoom), co-facilitation approach is intended to enhance the learning experience using the UI content as well supplemental CLAS-specific content and discussion. This approach will further familiarize you with our college’s local policies, practices, tools, and resources that are available to you.

Supervisor Training @ Iowa is to be completed by the end of 2020. The CLAS Senior Leadership Team was the first to attend a CLAS session, completed this past spring semester. Then we will provide sufficient opportunities for other CLAS supervisors to complete their required training by the end of the calendar year.

We will be in touch with more details as they develop, including additional information on the CLAS-specific delivery timeline and session dates. Please be ready to select a session for your required training when the options become available. CLAS looks forward to providing this opportunity for development in your important role as a supervisor. We are committed to excellence and impact in our college, and this is another way to demonstrate your value as leaders on campus.

If you have questions, please consult with your HR Manager by email or Julie Rothbardt, Senior Director of CLAS Human Resources.
