Travel Grants for Research

The History Department awards travel grants on a competitive basis. 

Stanley Undergraduate Awards for International Research
Deadline: End of January 2024, 12:00 p.m.
Award size: amounts up to $2,500

John and Elsie Mae Ferentz Undergraduate Research Fund
Requirements: Must be registered for Honors in Major during semester of award
Deadline: Rolling 
Award size: maximum $1000

Dewey Stuit Fund for Undergraduate Research and The Maureen Medberry Snell CLAS Award
Deadline: Rolling
Award size: approximately $400

Honors Grants for Experiential Learning Travel Grants
Requirements: Restricted to University Honors students
Deadline: Rolling
Award size: up to $500 once per year
 

Merit Scholarships

The Kay Keeshan Hamod Award for Scholarship in History, a generous scholarship funded by alumnus David Hamod, is awarded to a History major in the final year of study.

  • Requirements: Must be University Honors and currently pursuing Honors in the History major
  • Deadline: October 15
     

The Undergraduate Library Research Award, sponsored by the University of Iowa Libraries, is awarded to one undergraduate student each semester who has demonstrated creative or innovative research skills in the use, selection, and integration of resources, services, and materials from the UI Libraries in their research.

  • Award size: $500
  • Deadline: April 30
                     December 7

The Excellence in Undergraduate Research Awards, sponsored by the Iowa Center for Research by Undergraduates (ICRU), is awarded annually to five undergraduate students to recognize outstanding accomplishments in scholarly investigation, artistic creation, or performance.

  • Award size: $1000
  • Deadline: February 3
     

Fellowship Program

The ICRU Research Fellows Program allows students to become involved in a research project that is headed and sponsored by a faculty member. The result of that project is an honors thesis, publication, exhibition, or performance. The work must be conducted over the summer or during the academic year for a specific number of hours per week.
