Andrew Steck earned a PhD from the University of Iowa in May 2019, while pursuing early medieval history, specializing in the history of Rome and the papacy, with further research interests in manuscript studies.  His dissertation, supervised by Michael E. Moore, explains the importance of popular participation by the early medieval populus Romanus to the socio-religious and political workings of the papacy in the period from c.600-c.900.  Andrew has previously conducted summer research at the American Academy in Rome and the Pontifical Institute for Medieval Studies, while pursuing a diploma in manuscript studies from PIMS under the direction of M. Michèle Mulchahey.  He holds a B.A. from Winona State University, and M.A. degrees from the University of St. Thomas and Villanova University.
