A: While students can earn these certifications at various locations, there are several options for online and in-person courses:

A: The University of Iowa Therapeutic Recreation program does not complete background checks on students. Students can acquire this service through external sources. Resources are noted below:

Q: Where can I find additional information regarding the internship experience?
A: Please review the therapeutic recreation internship manual for additional details. The NCTRC Certification Track requires a Pre-Internship Seminar course, TR:4190, which provides additional preparatory information and detail reagarding the internship experience.
Q: How do I find an internship?
A: Students are expected to find and secure their own internship opportunity. Students can utilize multiple resources including the program's Therapeutic Recreation Internship Opportunities page as well as Google searches, specific site research, ATRA, state chapter therapeutic recreation associations, etc. More information about the search and selection process is discussed in the TR:4190 Pre-Internship Seminar, required for all NCTRC Track majors.
Q: What are the requirements of an Agency Supervisor at the internships site?
A: The Agency Supervisor at the internship must be certified as a CTRS and have held the crednetial for at least one year. They also must work full-time (30 hours or more) on site and be the direct supervisor of the intern. Additional information can be found at www.nctrc.org.
