They could be volunteer positions, part-time, seasonal or full-time positions. Please read closely and apply to positions based on your mix of needs regarding credit, experience and compensation. It is important to remember that semester hour credit is not automatically granted for experiential learning. You must register for SRM:4196 (Interscholastic Internship) or SRM:4199 (Independent Field Experience) and fulfill the requirements for the course and credits. Several local positions are currently posted on Teamwork Online in the Cedar Rapids, Dubuque and Des Moines areas. Prospect Meadows is seeking interns for the 2023 season. Located north of Iowa City about 40 minutes, students have the opportunity to engage and demonstrate skills in facility operations, event management, baseball tournament coordination and more. Recent UISRM alumn Kyle Schrader interned there while in our program and looks forward to talking with interested students about this opportunity. All details available here.

RipRoar Endurance Events based in Des Moines, Iowa is seeking motivated, positive and passionate interns for the Summer 2023 event season. All details on how to apply (and what is MOST important in that process) can be found here.
The Cedar Rapids Kernels have two summer 2023 internships still available: Social Media/Graphic Design and Stadium Operations. These internships are starting almost immediately and could be used for summer credit. IMG Academy in Bradenten, FL is seeking summer counselors to work within their elite athlete training facilities. This is a great position for a soon-to-be graduate looking for something to extend your full-time search window. The City of Monticello is seeking a highly motivated and energetic individual for the 2023 Parks and Recreation Intern position. Monticello is a community of just over 4,000 residents and is situated off Highway 151, just 30 minutes from Dubuque and Cedar Rapids. This internship will be a well-rounded and comprehensive experience for someone looking for a career in Parks and Recreation or a related field. The selected candidate will gain valuable experience and insight in the areas including, but not limited to programming, special events, concession operations, facility management and supervision, aquatics, marketing/promotions, ball diamond grooming/prep, and parks maintenance. Internships in Coaching and Event Management: the newest local partner to join the UISRM cohort of coaching opportunities is Hot Feet Sports, which was founded and is led by Iowa Football alumnus, Trevor Bollers. In these roles, students have the opportunity to hone coaching skills in volleyball, basketball or football. Check out this link for the details on the coaching opportunities. The City of Ankeny is accepting applications through February 27th for a Summer Park and Recreation Intern ($17/hr). Ankeny is located 15 miles north of Des Moines and home to over 70K people. The intern will be involved in all aspects fo the department from May through August (approx. 13 weeks) in alignment with our summer semester. There is an expectation of 40 hours/week including nights and weekends. More information is available here.
The Englert Theater lists both internships, part-time and full-time positions, many of which are direct applications of the work we do in sport and recreation management courses, particularly in event management and marketing. Current postings are listed here.
The Des Moines Menace are building out their team for Summer 2023 and have many opportunities for interns including sales, broadcasting, game day operations, graphic design, public relations/ communications, soccer operations, videography and youth program coordination. Intern with RedZone Football Academy in the League Operations Intern role Summer 2023! This will be the flag football organization's 10th season developing local talent among 700+ participants on more than 50 different teams. This is an unpaid internship with performance bonuses available up to $1000. Two different roles are available: Football Coaching (2) and Business Development (1). Summer 2023 Paid Internships with the Middle Atlantic PGA (MAPGA) are open now! There are two positions open, one in Tournament Operations and the other in Social Media. CLick on each of the corresponding position descriptions and apply quickly!
Remote Internship with Maxx MGMT, who represent over 30 NFL/NBA/NCAA athletes on branding, management, and marketing efforts. Internship is open to undergraduate students for college credit who are looking for some experience in the athlete management/marketing field this winter/spring. They typically take at least two (sometimes three) interns per semester. More information and application details here.
Strength and Conditioning Internship within the Minnesota Twins organization, specifically with the Cedar Rapids Kernels. Intern will have potential to live/work onsite for spring training in Orlando, FL and then relocate for summer to continue work with the team on location in Cedar Rapids. The interns will gain hands-on experience in all aspects of strength training, conditioning, speed development, mobility, data collection, technology, assessments, programming, and nutrition. Paid Summer Internships. The Indianapolis Indians are currently accepting applications of qualified candidates interested in pursuing a career in sports. Each year the Indians look to fill 13 full time internships. This program is a great experience for anyone passionate about working in the sports industry. Remote Internships with TBT Enterprises. They specialize is hosting high-stakes, open-application sporting events across the world. You're probably familiar with The Basketball Tournament (TBT) which started in 2014. They are adding TST (The Soccer Tournament) to their calendar of events. OVG360 is the same management group also oversees operations for the Xtream Arena in Coralville as well as many more venues around the world! Volunteer with SWARM, the new Iowa NIL collective, on football game days in the 2022 season. The Swarm Collective, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation organized exclusively to enable and empower the University of Iowa student-athletes in amplifying their NIL opportunities by contributing their time and diversity of talents through charitable work with non-profits, being active while giving back to our communities, and providing mentorship to our future generation of leaders. SWARM is looking for volunteers for upcoming events throughout the year. Our immediate needs are for volunteers for football tailgate events. Event Day Staff (PT) PAID positions at Xtream Arena including Ice and Facilities Crew, Customer Service Staff, Ticket Office Staff, and Ice Rink Staff (at Coral Ridge Mall location). All positions provide excellent entry-level experience and could lead to internship level roles down the road. As written, these positions do NOT qualify for credit but are a great part-time job. Spring / Summer 2023 Internships: American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) interns gain invaluable experience in the golf industry every day throughout the internship. You'll be working in a team dynamic daily, traveling to numerous championship golf courses helping conduct over 120 tournaments, and will have ample networking opportunities, which is the backbone of being successful in the industry. Two internships available with UI Recreational Services Aquatic Center as Aquatic Equipment Technicians. One requires CPR certification and the other does not. Both would qualify for credit. In this position students will get exposure to both collegiate and club aquatic events. This is an excellent opportunity for those interested in sport event management. Part-time on-campus positions working in Recreational Services. Most of these positions do NOT qualify for credit but if you're curious, set up a meeting with Anna Jensen to discuss! This is a great way to earn some money related to your major and network with higher level positions that you might pursue in future years...that DO qualify for credit.
Post-Grad paid internship with the DSR team at the St. Louis Cardinals. The Direct Sales Representative (DSR) position is designed to help recent graduates, as well as those early in their sports career, to take the next step in professional sports. This is full-time paid, benefits eligible position for one year with an option for a second year. You will also find traditional internships available year-round at this same link.
Remote internship with The 33rd Team, an NFL/NCAA think tank that collaborates with former NFL front office and coaching personnel, working to continually grow and learn from current and past football analytics and experiences. Details regarding position responsibilities and how to apply are here.
Internships with University of Iowa Trademarks, Licensing and Hall of Fame open immediately and into the 22/23 academic year. Over the years, several UISRM students have begun their professional careers in this office with the mentorship and guidance from Dale Arens and his team. PT: North Liberty Parks and Recreation is seeking officials for youth recreation leagues. This would NOT qualify for credit but is a great way for students looking to learn/practice skills while earning funds and helping your local community (about 15 minutes north of Iowa City.) PT: Both Borlaug and Wickham Before/After School Programs are hiring Youth Counselors. This is a paid position that could be used for credit with additional project work added. Position includes working with K-6 grade, supervising and assisting with homework, arts and crafts, interacting and playing games such as dodgeball, capture the flag, four square, volleyball and more. PT: The Iowa City Eels is a nonprofit, year-round USA Swimming affiliated club serving developmental and competitive swimmers of all ages from all over Johnson County. Internships: The Pro-Fit Gym is continuing their internship program. They have invested a lot of money this past year in gym equipment and expansion ($80K+). Additionally, they have invested over $10k in sports technology which helps them gather data and make informed training decisions. Pro-Fit interns will be learning a great deal, being on the cutting edge of data analytics while gaining great experience.
