The Office of Field Experience is actively engaged in recruiting experiential learning partners. As positions become known, links to information about available opportunities will be posted here. They could be volunteer positions, part-time, seasonal or full-time positions. Please read closely and apply to positions based on your mix of needs regarding credit, experience and compensation. It is important to remember that semester hour credit is not automatically granted for experiential learning. You must register for SRM:4196 (Interscholastic Internship) or SRM:4199 (Independent Field Experience) and fulfill the requirements for the course and credits. Several local positions are currently posted on Teamwork Online in the Cedar Rapids, Dubuque and Des Moines areas. The University of Iowa Athletics Department is looking to interview individuals who are interested in applying to be an Event Management Intern for the 2021-22 academic year. The position description, application process and timeline are provided at the respective links. Applications must be submitted no later than 5:00PM on Friday, March 5th.
College Football Playoff Internship Program: The College Football Playoff, based in Irving, Texas, is seeking four highly-motivated recent college graduates for its 2021-2022 internship program. Successful candidates will be an integral part of staging the national championship game in Indianapolis on January 10, 2022, as well as laying the groundwork for games in subsequent years. Four full-time, paid positions will be hired from August 16, 2021 through April 29, 2022. Interns will be required to work extensive hours in December and January, as well as some weekends and holidays. Areas of concentration include: Communications and Social Media (Tom Mickle Internship), Hospitality and Fan Services, Marketing and Strategic Partnerships. Public Events. To apply, interested parties should complete an online application found here. Applicants will be required to submit three PDF documents containing their resume, cover letter and three references. Additionally, applicants will be required to submit a work sample. Once we have received all required materials, you will receive email acknowledgement from firstname.lastname@example.org. The application deadline is Tuesday, March 9th at 4:59 p.m. CT. Interns are responsible for securing their own transportation, housing, and relocation costs to the Dallas-Fort Worth area. No benefits will be provided.
The Burlington Bees are searching for intern candidates for the 2021 season. They have recently joined the summer collegiate Prospect League. The season is scheduled to begin in late May and conclude in early August making it the perfect summer opportunity for students interested in the sports industry. There are four positions available: Food and Beverage, Marketing and Stadium Operations, Groundskeeping, Tickets, Groups Sales and Merchandising. Some pay, home game meals and housing provided.
The Chicago Sports Commission (CSC) Internship Program provides students or recent graduates with an opportunity to gain firsthand experience in the sports tourism industry. Kansas City Sports Commission is now accepting applications for our Summer 2021 Internships (Events, Marketing, and Graphic Design). As of now, we are working to ensure our summer events including the KC Triathlon, Camp WIN, the WIN for KC Triathlon & Duathlon, and more go on as planned, while providing a safe and enjoyable environment for all participants, staff, and volunteers. Should some or all of these events not go on, we are prepared to offer virtual learning and networking opportunities for our interns throughout the summer. While these options certainly couldn’t replace in-person, hands on experience, we are committed to ensuring our interns benefit from their experience with our organization and complete their internship more connected and knowledgeable than when they began. Regardless of event cancellation, interns will still be expected to work remotely, communicating daily with our staff. Applications are accepted beginning February 15 and closes March 1, 2019.
A new internship we've developed in coordination with Harvest Preserve working with their new Harvest Adventure Camp is now available for Summer 2021! The Indianapolis Indians are currently accepting applications of qualified candidates interested in pursuing a career in sports. Each year the Indians look to fill 14 full time internships. This program is a great experience for anyone passionate about working in the sports industry. The Indians provide monthly compensation and additional benefits. The City of Ankeny, IA is seeing Spring Interns (starting immediately) and Summer Interns (starting May) in Parks and Recreation. Interns will be involved in all aspects of the department. The position is paid. Apply immediately for spring and through March 15 for summer.
The City of Mason City, IA is seeking a Recreation Intern for summer 2021. The Intern will provide overall assistance to the recreation staff regarding the planning, coordinating, and administering of the recreation programs. This will include childcare programs, aquatic center, youth sports, and adult sports. This internship is not a permanent position and will run from May 2021 to August 2021. The City of Des Moines is now accepting applications for their summer internships. Each paid internship with the City of Des Moines will include exposure to multiple areas of the Park and Recreation Department. Areas of focus can vary depending upon interest, but will include: Athletics, Aquatics, Special Events, and Environmental Education. The Zach Johnson Foundation's Kids on Course AmeriCorps program is seeking a summer 2021 Learning Specialists and Adademic Support Specalists. The Kansas City Royals are have several openings for their 2021 Season for students in their final semester (if doing online work) or who are recent 2020 graduates to join their Trainee Program. Xtream Arena and GreenState Family Fieldhouse, managed by Spectra Venue Management, is hiring a part-time event coordinator. All the position details are HERE. If you are a student still in need of field experience credit, this position would qualify.
Cedar Rapids Kernels are accepting applications now (interviews slated for late January) for positions in Stadium Operations (FT, April - September) and Game Day Ticket Office (PT, May - September.) Both positions come with compensation commensurate with responsibilities.
Waterloo Bucks are accepting applications for several summer semester internships. Full time internships include Sales (based out of the Kernels office in Cedar Rapids), Administration and Ticket Office. Game day internships include Community Relations, Game Operations, Merchandising, Stadium Operations and Video Production. The NASCAR Diversity Internship Program (NDIP) offers paid, summer-long internships in a wide range of areas including Social Media, Digital Strategy, Analytics, Communications, Business Development and Licensing, Graphic Design, Engineering, Human Resources, Public Affairs, Hospitality and Guest Services, Marketing, Legal, Finance and Accounting, and Analytics. Qualified candidates will be accepted on a rolling basis so early applications are encouraged and must be submitted before January 31, 2021. #RecHawks Here is another opportunity to gain some parks/recreation experience! The City of Marion (NE suburb of Cedar Rapids) is seeking an intern to gain experience across the spectrum of P/R work, reporting to the Aquatics Coordinator, Recreation Supervisor and Parks Operation Supervisor. This is a paid position and a great way to earn your required credit.
Neighborhood Centers of Johnson County (NCJC) are hiring for multiple positions, all paid. Some will require additional projects to qualify for field experience credit. All would be great experiences for your resume and relevant for future positions, particularly for parks, recreation, coaching or athletic administration.
Intern in Alaska in Parks and Recreation! Bristol Bay Borough has internships year-round and is currently accepting applications for Summer 2021. This is a paid internship and they even provide for your transportation and to/from Bristol Bay. What an adventure for the outdoor park enthusiast! Fifth Ward Saints North provides outreach to at-risk students in Iowa City through athletic, academic and social service programs. They are currently seeking Volunteer mentors, tutors and coaches. Some positions may qualify for field experience credit but require an additional project above posted job responsibilities.
