Matheson Earns Award for Teaching Excellence

Dan Matheson, LecturerThe Department of Health & Human Physiology is pleased to congratulate Dan Matheson on receiving this year’s prestigious President and Provost Award for Teaching Excellence.  Only one Lecturer from all colleges and divisions throughout The University of Iowa  receives this award annually.

This award is a testament to Dan’s dedication and success in and outside of the classroom.  Dan will take the reins as director of the Sport and Recreation Management degree program in Health and Human Physiology beginning this summer.  Perhaps one of his most popular innovations has been the field trips he leads each semester that afford students interested in the field of Sport and Recreation Management the opportunity to meet with industry executives.

The next field trip includes meetings and tours with the Kansas City Chiefs, the Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Sports Commission, Sporting Kansas City, the UMKC Athletics Department and HNTB Corporation (a sports architecture firm that designed SF 49ers stadium, the Kinnick Stadium redesign and hundreds of other sport facilities), all squeezed into 26 hours! You can follow along on twitter @DanMatheson or #UISRM2KC. Past field trips have included sports organizations in Chicago and Indianapolis among others.  Congratulations Dan!
