Degree:
Health and Human Physiology (Health Promotion) B.A.
Year:
2015

I graduated from Iowa in May 2015 with a B.A. in Health Promotion. The curriculum, which blends nutrition, exercise science and behavior change theory, helps me on a daily basis in my work as a Personal Trainer and Registered Dietitian. Nutrition & Health and Nutrition Interventions were among my favorite classes, which motivated me to pursue nutrition-related Health Promotion practicum experiences at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Johnson County Public Health and the Iowa Medical Classification Center. Having hands-on nutrition experience with a variety of populations, including patients in pulmonary rehabilitation and male inmates in a weight management program, was one of the most influential factors that prepared me for a graduate-level dietetic program with a public health focus.

I am currently working as a Sports Dietitian at a D1 school, where I educate athletes on nutrition before, during and after exercise. I also present nutrition lectures to high school athletes at sports camps sponsored by Clif. I highly encourage anyone with a passion for motivating others to make healthy lifestyle choices to consider studying Health Promotion at Iowa.
