Honors GHS Requirements

The UI Global Health Studies Programs offers an honors curriculum
for both the B.A. and B.S. in Global Health Studies.

 

Honors B.A. in Global Health Studies
In addition to completing the requirements for the B.A. in Global Health Studies, students completing the Honors B.A. in Global Health Studies must also satisfy these requirements (for a total of 40 s.h.):

  • maintain a cumulative University of Iowa g.p.a. of at least 3.33 and a g.p.a. of at least 3.33 in all work for the major
     
  • complete a minimum of 6 s.h. of honors courses (which are restricted to students who have joined the UI Honors Program), or contract honors courses in their Global Health Studies major course work.  The electronic form which students use to contract a course as honors is in MyUI/ Student Information/ Courses & Grades and is available only during the semester in which it will be submitted. The deadline to submit the form is the Friday of week six in the fall and spring semester. Students are advsied to fill out the form while they are discussing their contract honors project with the instructor because the instructor must approve the form. Be sure to list Dr. Sokhieng Au as the Global Health Studies Honors Advisor on the online form.  More detailed information is on the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences "Honors Contract Courses" website.
     
  • complete GHS:3010 Identifying and Developing a Global Health Project followed by GHS:4991 Honors Thesis in Global Health Studies as their capstone experience
     
  • enroll in GHS:4992 GHS Honors Cohort with the GHS Honors Advisor (for 0 sh/ arranged time) during the semester in which GHS:4991 will be completed
     
  • submit an acceptable honors thesis
     
  • give an oral or poster presentation of research findings at a venue approved by the Global Health Studies Program
     

Honors B.S. in Global Health Studies
