Description

Public Works Transportation Asset Management Division, Asset Group is seeking to fill four limited-duration, non-benefit earning internship opportunities.

Location and hours:
These positions will be located at a Hennepin County facility in 479 Prairie Center Drive Eden Prairie, MN 55344.

These positions will start in May or early June 2020 and continue for a duration of up to six months, but generally last three months.  Final start, and end dates will be determined after the candidates have been selected. The work schedule is Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. and Friday 6 a.m. - 10 a.m. The position will be in Eden Prairie, MN.

In these internships you will:

Assist with field data collection, database maintenance, pavement surface condition surveys, and report generation/analysis of the Asset Management System; this includes culvert, catch basin, median, curb and retaining wall condition inspections.

Gather a variety of field data, including photos and measurements, to ensure the asset database is up-to-date.

Quality check and compile data for annual reports, project reports, and various cost analysis reports.

Utilize the Windows operation system, Internet Explorer, and Google Chrome internet browsers.

Create and update thematic maps with Infrastructure Management data, using Geographic Information System (ArcGIS) software as time allows.

Need to have:

Current enrollment pursuing a degree as a graduate or undergraduate student, or vocational technical degree with course work in civil engineering, land surveying/highway engineering technology, geography, GIS, and/or other related technical courses.

A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit.

The ability to walk on uneven terrain, bend and stoop, and work outdoors, and lift and carry up to 30 lbs.

Nice to have:

Experience troubleshooting basic computer issues.

Experience working with datasets and databases in a school or work setting.

Knowledge of math functions such as arithmetic, algebra, and geometry.

Knowledge of construction equipment, materials, and methods.

Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and ArcGIS.

Ability to communicate with staff at all levels of the organization, using all types of communication methods.
