DEPARTMENT: Tax Administration

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Forsyth County's Tax Administration Department has opening for a GIS Technician.  The GIS Technician performs skilled map drafting and related technical work using a computerized mapping system in the preparation and maintenance of maps of land parcels and related records of ownership. This position assists in building the foundation for proper taxation of real estate parcels within the county. 

 

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES:

The ideal candidate should have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees

Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the public.

Ability to compute areas from property descriptions and maps.

Ability to interpret deeds and transfer the pertinent data to maps.

Skill in the use of drafting instruments for the revision of existing maps or creation of new maps.

Working knowledge of geographical areas and subdivision in the county.

Working knowledge of terminology, methods, and forms used in keeping records of land titles.

Working knowledge of standard practices, materials and equipment used in computerized land survey drafting and land data base operations.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from high school or GED and two years experience in property mapping, surveying, or paralegal services related to real property (such as title work) or other related areas.

Prefer graduation from a two or four-year college with courses in math, geography, paralegal, drafting, surveying or related area.
 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Performs owner transfers on tax records based upon recorder documentation.

Assists the public or employees in other governmental departments in finding property in tax records and in interpreting tax maps, appraisal cards, and other records.

Performs technical analytical work to define, compile and extract map information from the graphics data base for various uses.

Assists with special projects when assigned.

Assists in the training of new mapping personnel.

Compiles ownership maps based on information gathered from researching deeds and examining survey maps and aerial photographs.

Uses a graphic computer system to perform land survey drafting.

Makes changes in map index and appraisal cards.

Computes acreage and square footage of each parcel when land is divided

Draws maps to scale and labels with identifying information.

Follows deed descriptions and other records to segregate land and show new property lines.

Plots parcels, tracts, and new subdivisions on tax maps.

Obtains data on property transfers and segregations from property records, recorded deeds, plots and other sources.

Performs research necessary for transfers of property by deeds or wills; records the related information for use in the real estate section.

Performs related work as required.
