Description

Hennepin County's Geographic Information Systems (GIS) division is seeking a motivated GIS Technician to support countywide GIS data efforts and collaborative initiatives. This is a professional, entry-level position requiring the ability to learn, contribute, take direction, and work under the supervision of higher-level staff to meet the county's critical GIS data needs. 

Location and hours:
This position is located at the Hennepin County Government Center building in downtown Minneapolis, 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487.  Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. 

About the position:
This is a full-time, limited duration (temporary) position with benefits, lasting approximately one year. 

In this position, you will:

Support enterprise geospatial analysis and mapping projects, with focus on Health and Human Services business units.

Complete day-to-day mapping, analysis and data requests.

Perform enterprise data maintenance as needed.

Perform on-call end user technical support as needed.

Participate on collaborative project teams. 

Need to have:
One of the following:

Two-year college/vocational technical degree or higher in a technology field or approved information technology certificate.

Completion of five or more college/vocational technical technology courses.

Completion of an approved IT Hennepin County internship.

One year or more of technology experience.

Nice to have:

Professional/intern GIS experience. 

Experience working with ESRI's ArcGIS Desktop Software (10.x) and ArcGIS Online. 

Knowledge of spatial database design principles and geodatabase construction. 

Basic knowledge of Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS), structured query language (SQL), and Microsoft SQL Server. 

Ability to:

Present information within both educational and administrative environments and respond to questions from managers, staff, outside agencies, and the general public. 

Complete documentation procedures.

Work under limited supervision. 

Work in a team environment and communicate effectively with team members.
