Intern - GIS (part-time, temporary) with an online application deadline of 01/15/2019 or until 75 applicants have successfully completed the application process.

 

SALARY RANGE:  $11.56 per hour.

 

WORK SCHEDULE:  The position is temporary part-time, typically based on an 18-hour work week during regular business hours starting at the beginning of May 2019 through the end of April 2020.

JOB SUMMARY:

This position assists in the implementation of projects related to the collection, maintenance and analysis of the village’s GIS data, including field data collection.

 

Position is part time, typically based on an 18-hour work week.

 

JOB DUTIES:

Completes assignments related to GIS including creating, editing, and updating features in geodatabases and creation of map exhibits for various departments within the Village.

Assists with new or ongoing GIS projects.

Assists in data collection and updates utilizing Trimble GPS devices and iPads through ArcGIS Online.

Scans and files maps, plats, legal documents, and engineering plans.

Performs other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Currently enrolled in an accredited Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or graduate program in GIS, Geography, Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, or a related field.

Experience with ArcGIS including an understanding of the editor toolbar in ArcMap, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), and relational databases. 

Possession of a valid driver’s license and have transportation to and from inspection sites.

4.Proficiency with current computer software systems, including email, calendar programs, job specific software, and customer service systems preferred or within the first six months of employment.

 

Candidates should be detail oriented, self-motivated, and possess superior organization and writing skills. Good communication skills necessary. Ability to establish good working relationships.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Subject to high levels of noise for an extended period of time.

Subject to extremes of temperature for prolonged periods or abrupt changes in temperature.

Subject to exposure to fumes or disagreeable odors.
Subject to inclement weather conditions.

Prolonged periods of concentration such as proof reading, geometric calculations, drawing, reading, interpreting blue prints, etc.
