Code Enforcement Officer - Watford City, ND

Position Summary: The Planning & Zoning (P&Z) Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for organizing, reviewing and enforcing current Zoning Ordinances as adopted by the McKenzie County Planning and Zoning Commission. The Code Enforcement Officer responds to complaints, produces reports and issues violations. This position is located in Watford City, ND and scheduled for Monday – Friday. Level and salary commensurate with experience.

Essential job functions:

  • Conducts site/field inspections
  • Attends public hearings and P&Z Board meetings
  • Assists with the management of Code Enforcement records
  • Presents to County Commissioners and/or P&Z Commission when necessary
  • Review or assist in the review of moderate to difficult development proposals and site plans for conformance with codes, plans and regulations
  • Participates in the evaluation of re-zones, ordinance amendments, conditional use permits, site plans, variances, subdivisions and other proposals
  • Manage Code Enforcement records and documentation
  • Responds to complaints and investigates P&Z violations; writes and sends notices of violations
  • Coordinates with State’s Attorney’s office to prepare and issue warnings and citations
  • Other duties as assigned for business needs

Minimum qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Proficient with MS Office programs including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to report to Watford City, ND daily at required schedule time
  • Bachelors degree preferred, specifically to city, county or regional planning
  • Physical requirements and working conditions:
  • Able to handle exposure to extreme weather conditions
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds, kneel, stoop, sit, walk extensively
  • Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, fumes, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, and intense noises

Level and salary commensurate with experience; starting at $27.64/hour
