Faculty Assembly — Membership

Composition of Faculty Assembly

Members of the Faculty Assembly serve three-year terms, with approximately one-third of the Assembly welcomed as new members each year.

Faculty Assembly includes some members elected to represent their electoral groups during CLAS elections. (See the CLAS Manual of Policy and Procedure, Article III, for election procedures.) Other members are appointed to represent their unit directly. These units may also appoint an alternate to attend and vote when the representative is unavailable. Each voting unit handles the selection of its representative and alternate internally according to its established procedures. (See CLAS Manual of Policy and Procedure, Article III, Section III.6.)

Representatives elected as Faculty Assembly officers in the last year of their term continue to serve as members ex officio.

Additional Representatives

Four units that are housed in other colleges but offer degrees through the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences have the right to appoint a voting unit representative: Biochemistry; Economics; Education; and Microbiology and Immunology. The University Emeritus Faculty Council may send two (non-voting) members to the Faculty Assembly.

Please keep in mind that it is the responsibility of all Faculty Assembly members to solicit input from their constituents.
