Zoom continues to work hard to increase security and reduce avenues for bad behavior in meetings.  Recently, Zoom announced a global patch intended for September 27th, 2020.  This patch was targeted toward issues known as Zoom Bombing and the concept was to require a passcode for every meeting OR the waiting room feature enabled if there was no passcode.

The passcode is a great idea that we have already implemented back in July.  See this support article… https://its.uiowa.edu/support/article/119201.  Most Zoom meetings have the passcode embedded in the link so we do not have to enter digits manually.

While we had started communicating with departments, the September 27th patch has been cancelled by Zoom.  The patch will likely be put back on the schedule at a later time.  When this happens, we will be communicating extensively because the patch might create small disruptions for Zoom meetings created prior to July 23, 2020.

No action is required at this time.
