The CLAS Collegiate Fellow program, established in 2000–2001, honors faculty with records of sustained productivity and distinction who have an outstanding record in all areas of faculty endeavor—teaching, scholarly and creative work, and leadership in service to the University, College, and department.  The title of Collegiate Fellow is the most prestigious appointment that CLAS bestows.

Faculty members are eligible to be nominated after eight or more years of service at the rank of professor.  If you previously nominated someone, please do not resubmit their name for three years.  Faculty already holding named appointments are not eligible.

By November 1, 2018, please nominate any member of your faculty who you believe merits the designation of Collegiate Fellow.  (Please do not tell faculty that their names have been forwarded to me to be considered for the honor.)

In your letter of nomination, please describe the significance of the nominee’s work and provide an updated version of the nominee’s CV.  In addition, please submit names, e-mails, and addresses of six distinguished scholars or artists in the nominee’s field whom I could invite to serve as external evaluators (do not contact them yourself, please).  Submit nomination materials as a single pdf to Brenda Gritsch.  I will consult the College’s committee on named chairs and professorships before awarding the designation of Collegiate Fellow to the class of 2019.  A list of current CLAS Collegiate Fellows is available on the CLAS website:

The designation as Collegiate Fellow is for a five-year renewable term.  Each successful candidate will receive a one-time $2,000 teaching/research award to be used during their first two years as Collegiate Fellow.  Awards are supported by an endowment to the College through the UI Foundation.
