Flu season is here again, and University Human Resources (UHR) encourages faculty and staff to get their annual flu shot.

Receiving a flu vaccination is one way to help keep those around you, including family, colleagues, and patients safe and healthy. For faculty and staff in 50% or greater regular positions, getting your vaccination is free and easy!

Convenient, on-campus flu vaccine events have been scheduled, with locations across campus. You may also schedule your vaccine at UI Quickcare, UI Urgent Care, Iowa River Landing, a local pharmacy, or from your primary care provider. If you don't have a primary care provider, request one by calling 800-777-8442 or use the online appointment form.

The CDC recommends an annual influenza vaccination for everyone 6 months and older. In addition to receiving a flu vaccine, the CDC recommends these preventive actions to help stop the spread of germs:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand rub.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • If you are sick, limit contact with others.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, throw the tissue in the trash after.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

Visit this CDC webpage for guidance on symptoms, including influenza, the common cold, and COVID-19.
While flu season happens every year, there can be a lot of information and questions, including around COVID-19. Frequently asked questions are available on The Loop.
