Important guidelines and information for making significant curricular changes to an undergraduate major, minor, or certificate are below.

DEOs anticipating the proposal of significant undergraduate curricular additions or changes should discuss these with me as soon as feasible. These include the following:

  • A new program of study (a major, minor, or certificate).
  • The closure or renaming of a program of study.
  • A new track or renaming or closing one.
  • Substantial changes in the required hours for a major, minor, or certificate.
  • The addition or removal of a degree choice (e.g. BA, BS).

Significant curricular changes are implemented at the start of the fall semester after the publication of the General Catalog in June and take more than a year to move through the approval process.

Related information is available on the Faculty pages; please see Curricular Changes: Additional and Revisions (https://clas.uiowa.edu/faculty/academic-programs-curriculum).

I am happy to discuss any related questions and ideas that you might have.

Thank you.
