RE: Important Changes to Exam Scoring Procedures

Important changes are coming to exam scoring services in January 2019 in order to create better security for those designing and using exams.  Both ATAC and the OneIT Governance Counsel recommended these changes, which have now been approved.

Starting in November, anyone using exam scoring services will receive a copy of these changes in their exam packet, with these changes also listed below.

To facilitate these changes, training will be offered, and we would be more than happy to come to your department or program to present a short demo.

Changes in Exam Services Effective January 2019

1. All instructors will use a new exam portal to retrieve exam scores. Scores will no longer be sent by email.

a. Instructors will be able to retrieve only the reports needed and will not receive unnecessary items by email.
b. Instructors will be able to login to the portal and change answer keys, add bonus points to exams, and receive new results immediately by hitting a “rescore key” and will no longer need to have exams rescanned to make these changes.
c. Instructors will be able to use an “and/required option” which will allow for more than one correct answer for partial or full points.
d. Administrative assistants may be added by the instructor to help with exams; assistants will be checked for FERPA compliance when given portal access.

2. Campus Mail may no longer be used for exam drop-off. Exams instead must be dropped off at C102 PBB.  Exams may be left in the lockbox located outside the PBB Copy Center, as needed.

3. Exams will not be returned though Campus Mail; exams must be picked up, ensuring that exams are returned to the right instructor.

4. If picking up exam results, the person listed as the “pick-up” person must show their University ID or other picture ID in order to receive the exams.

5. A plug-in to allow easier scrambling of questions for test security is in the process of being developed and will be ready in early spring. Once the plug-in is added, multiple exams will no longer need to be submitted.
