Faculty Search Committee Practices to Advance Equity Workshop Opportunities – November 2017 and February 2018
The campus community is invited to attend an upcoming session hosted by the Office of the Provost regarding Faculty Search Committee Practices to Advance Equity. The session will be offered on two different dates to accommodate schedules:
- Tuesday, November 28, 2017, 3-4:30 p.m. in 2520D University Capitol Centre (UCC). RSVP by Wednesday November 22, 2017 via this link: Campus-Wide Faculty Search Committee Practices to Advance Equity
- Wednesday, February 7, 2018, 1-2:30 p.m. in 2520 D University Capitol Center (UCC). RSVP by Wednesday January 31, 2018 via this link: Campus-Wide Faculty Search Committee Practices to Advance Equity
The programs will be led by Diane Finnerty, Assistant Provost for Faculty, who will provide an overview of the research related to unconscious bias in the search process and review various steps that can be taken at each stage of a search to diversify the pool, decrease the effects of bias, and implement more equitable processes.
The session is designed to provide resources to faculty members who are leading and/or serving on faculty search committees, as well as to staff and administrators serving in support roles to those committees. The Office of the Provost strongly encourages all faculty members engaged in a faculty search during AY17-18 to attend one of these sessions.
Please contact the Office of the Provost with any questions and/or suggestions at 335-3991 or via email at faculty@uiowa.edu.
Thank you.
