The 12th Annual Faculty Women’s Symposium is being held on Friday, February 28, 2020, at the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center in Coralville. Faculty from throughout the UI are invited and encouraged to attend.

The theme this year is Difficult Dialogues: Ways to stay in when you want to get out!

  • Dr. Sherry Watt will open the day with an interactive conversation, focusing on promoting introspection in regards to these difficult dialogues.
  • Dr. Beth Livingston will follow up with a discussion about the ways in which this manifests structurally in terms of employment feedback, high-quality relationships, and even “queen bee syndrome,” culminating in small group role-playing and scenario feedback-giving.

Attendees will begin with introspection, engage in conversation, and then follow up with skill-building designed to improve your skills with difficult dialogues and ability to facilitate positive interpersonal interactions. This will be followed by repeated afternoon break-out sessions on the following topics:

  • Implicit Bias with Dr. Denise Martinez
  • Finding and Owning Your Voice with Dr. Nancy Hauserman
  • Silencing Your Inner Critic with Maggie Moore
  • Panel Discussion on Promotion with Faculty Affairs Associate Deans

The symposium will finish the day with wine, cheese, and insights from women leaders across campus.
