I am pleased to announce the results from the faculty voting on the following two referendums that were held May 4-May 11 and May 5-May 12.

Referendum # 1 requested the faculty to approve the revised College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (CLAS) Manual of Policy and Procedure (MOPP).  Results were as follows:

Two hundred and forty-six (246) faculty of the 603 eligible faculty members cast a ballot.  A total of 200 faculty members voted in favor of adopting the policy, 46 voted against it.  Therefore, 81% of the voting faculty favored adopting the proposed MOPP and the policy secured the required approval of “three-fifths majority of those voting.”

As provided in Section 45 of the current MOPP, ratification requires three-fifths majority of those voting thereon and the approval of the Provost and the President of the University; if, however, the President does not veto any portion of the revision within 60 days following its approval by the Faculty, the revision shall take effect.   The revised MOPP and the election results were forwarded to the Office of the Provost on May 15.

Referendum #2, sponsored by the Office of the Provost, requested the faculty to approve the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (CLAS) Instructional Faculty Policy.   Results were as follows:

One hundred and thirty-eight (138) faculty of the 603 eligible faculty members cast a ballot.  A total of 99 faculty members voted in favor of adopting the policy, 31 voted against it, and 8 abstained.  Therefore, 72% of the voting faculty favored adopting the proposed Instructional Faculty Policy and the policy secured the required approval of “a majority of the voting faculty.”

The Office of the Provost’s has approved the CLAS Instructional Faculty Policy proposal.
