Please remember to report academic misconduct; your reports help to stop cheating, with word quickly passing from student to student that misconduct has consequences.

Procedures for Reporting Misconduct

1. Be sure to email the student about the problem at the uiowa.edu address.
2. Meet with the student if at all possible to discuss the student’s situation. At the end of the year this can be difficult; if there is no response to your email, please move to step 3.
3. Use this online form to report the incident to the College. Upload any documentation to the form that you might have. Please include your name on the form so we can copy you on our response to the student.

Sanctions from the College

• For a first offense, students must complete an academic integrity seminar; the seminar costs $100 and takes around 18 hours to complete. The student may also be asked to discuss their seminar work with us. A hold is put on the student’s future registration until the seminar is completed. Sooner or later, the student must face the consequences of cheating.
• For a second offense (or an egregious first offense), a student is suspended for one academic year.
• For a third offense (or for a very egregious first or second offense), a student is expelled.
