I am pleased to announce that the CLAS General Education Program now has a new name, the CLAS Core.

During the next year, we will refer to the GE Program as the GE CLAS Core to help avoid confusion during this transition. By the end of next year, we hope to drop the use of “GE” and simply refer to these requirements as the CLAS Core.

At the same time, our website has been revised and now has a new General Education tab in the banner near the top of the CLAS website.

The new GE CLAS Core requirements of Diversity and Inclusion and Values and Culture (for students entering UI Summer 2017 and after) now appear in the CLAS Core website, in the MAUI course library, and in the MyUI course schedule.

I would like to thank all of you involved in shaping these new requirements and for advising about the new name, including the Directors of Undergraduate Studies, the GE Curriculum Committee, UEPCC, and UISG.

I would also like to thank Benjamin Speare and Nic Arp for redesigning the website; thanks as well to the Office of the Registrar, ITS Administrative Information Systems, the Academic Advising Center, and Admissions for their advice and help, especially with coding the new GE status, updating MyUI and its search mechanism, and for working with transfer courses and issues.

Please take a look at the new site and send along your suggestions.

Many thanks.
