Background Information
Undergraduate students in CLAS must complete a minimum of 3 s.h. in the General Education area of Quantitative or Formal Reasoning (QFR), one of the CLAS degree requirements.

GE courses may be offered by any department or program, regardless of discipline, as long as the proposed course meets the GE comprehensive and QFR outcomes while also using the required GE course attributes. A proposal process is used to ensure courses meet these outcomes and standards.

Call for GE Proposals: Quantitative or Formal Reasoning

  • Proposals for GE status are next due on September 3, 2019 or on January 16, 2020.
  • The committee is especially interested proposals for the QFR area with innovative topics and pedagogy.
  • More information on creating a GE proposal is at this link. Please follow the guidelines provided in the proposal checklist while showing how the course will fulfill each requirement listed in the related rubric.
  • Additional General Education policies may be found here. For example, all GE courses must be numbered below 3000 and are only approved for ONE GE area. All GE offerings must be taught at least once every two years.
