Each year the Graduate College awards two scholarships for graduating undergraduate students who have been admitted to a graduate program at the UI or elsewhere. CLAS departments may nominate students for these awards. 

The deadline for departments to submit a nomination is April 8. The student portion of the nomination must be completed two weeks prior (by March 25th).

Sanxay Prize

The Sanxay Prize is a $1,000 award presented to an outstanding graduating senior in the University of Iowa's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Students must plan to attend graduate school at the University of Iowa or any other university in the summer or fall of 2021. Students planning to attend professional programs are not eligible (e.g. MD, JD).

Minimum Requirements

  • Candidates must have been born in Iowa or be permanent residents of Iowa.
  • Nominations can be from any department/program in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. 
  • Applicants must plan to attend graduate school beginning in the summer or fall of 2021.

Joseph E. and Ursil I. Callen Prize

The Joseph E. and Ursil I. Callen Prize is a $5,000 award presented to an outstanding graduating senior in the University of Iowa's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Students must plan to attend graduate school at the University of Iowa or any other university in the summer or fall of 2021.

The winner will be recognized at the University of Iowa's annual Honors Award Ceremony.

Minimum Requirements

  • Candidates must be United States citizens who were born in the United States.
  • In addition to strong academic qualifications, award recipients must show evidence of school and/or civic leadership in high school and/or college.
  • Applicants must a graduating senior from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and be planning to attend graduate school at the University of Iowa or any other university in the summer or fall of 2021.
