The Research Development Office in the Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development (OVPRED), in collaboration with the Carver College of Medicine Office of Faculty Affairs and Development, are pleased to announce that Dr. John Robertson from Grant Writer’s Seminars and Workshops (GWSW) will conduct the Write Winning Grant Proposals Phase I seminar on Friday, October 26, 2018.  A Phase II workshop sponsored by OVPRED will be held in February 2019.

PRESENTER INFORMATION
Dr. Robertson received his Ph.D. from The University of Texas at Austin in pharmacology and toxicology in 1999.  From 1999-2003, he was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.  He was subsequently hired in 2004 by the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KS, where he was a faculty member in the Department of Pharmacology, Toxicology & Therapeutics, and an associate member of the University of Kansas Cancer Center.  In 2010, he was recruited to teach grantsmanship by Grant Writers’ Seminars and Workshops as an Associate Member.  In 2017, he became the Managing Member of the company.

Dr. Robertson has been the recipient of competitive extramural funding from both the NIH and non-federal sources.  He has been a member of grant review panels and has served on several editorial boards.  In addition, he has been routinely recognized for excellence in teaching.   

SEMINAR INFORMATION
DATE:  Friday, October 26, 2018, The Hilton Garden Inn (328 S. Clinton Street)
TIME:   8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
COST:  $150/person (includes grant writing workbook & lunch)

NOTE: CLAS will cover the cost for up to 20 tenure, clinical, and instructional-track faculty on a first-come, first-served basis.

PHASE II WORKSHOP
The Phase II workshop, scheduled for February of 2019, is limited to 25 participants.  Workshop participants are selected based on a review of applications by GWSW and OVPRED senior staff.  Contact your collegiate associate dean for research at allison-bierman@uiowa.edu as soon as possible but not later than Thursday, August 23, if you are interested in applying to participate in the workshop. The Phase I Seminar is a pre-requisite for participation in the Phase II workshop. It is strongly advised that those interested in attending the workshop register as soon as possible for the seminar.
