This memo provides information about the 2017-2018 deadlines for:

  1. 2018-2019 Flexible Load Assignment applications
  2. Submission of reports for Flexible Loads taken in spring 2017 and fall 2017
  3. 2018 Old Gold Summer Fellowship applications
  4. Submission of reports for Old Gold Awards taken in summer 2017

Please disseminate this information to eligible not-yet-tenured faculty in your department.

1. Flexible Load Assignment (2018-2019) applications
Due to the DEO - Monday, October 23, 2017
Due to the Dean - Monday, October 30, 2017

The following materials must be submitted to the CLAS Dean’s Office:

  • The Application Form for Flexible Load Assignment, completed by the applicant and signed by the DEO (Please contact Allison Bierman at 5-3994 or allison-bierman@uiowa.edu to obtain the Application Form)
  • The faculty member’s one page summary of the work to be accomplished during the assignment
  • The faculty member’s updated CV

Many departments have established their own requirements (often including a more detailed prospectus, similar to a CDA application) and have processes for internal evaluation. Departments may continue these practices, but need not forward the additional materials to the College.

Please ensure that your faculty members understand the two major stipulations of this program. First, faculty receiving a flexible load must maintain a normal presence on campus during the flexible load semester (i.e., only occasional travel). Second, faculty must show some teaching (at least one student for one semester hour) during the flexible load semester.

2.1 Spring 2017 Flexible Load reports
(A form will be sent directly to each faculty member who had a Flexible Load assignment.)

2.2 Fall 2017 Flexible Load reports
(A form will be sent directly to each faculty member who had a Flexible Load assignment.)
Due to the Dean – Monday, January 29, 2018 (with DEO signature)

3. 2018 Old Gold Summer Fellowship applications
