RE: FY22 Performance/Exhibition Subventions

E-mail this article

Anticipating a ramp-up of national and international artistic performances, productions, and exhibitions as pandemic restrictions are eased by the availability of effective vaccines, CLAS has secured limited additional subvention funds from the OVPR for FY22 only. This non-recurring increase in OVPR subvention funds will be utilized to support artistic performances and exhibitions, with preference given to those involving travel and collaboration/co-production with entities outside of the University of Iowa. Please refer to the detailed description below.

Policy Owner
Associate Dean for Research, Joshua Weiner

Key Contact
If you have questions, please contact the assistant to the associate dean for research (Gabbie McDermott: gabriella-mcdermott@uiowa.edu).

Applicability
Open to full-time CLAS tenure-track or tenured faculty. Instructional track faculty may apply only if creative activity is assigned as one of their primary job responsibilities. Subvention requests must be submitted to CLAS prior to the performance/exhibition.

Purpose and Description
Recognizing the need for recovery of creative activity in the arts following pandemic-related disruptions to travel and events, and the fact that co-production and travel costs related to performances and exhibitions often fall at least partially on the shoulders of the artist, the Office of the Vice President for Research is providing one-time, nonrecurring funding to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences for performance/exhibition subventions in FY22. These funds will be prioritized toward major projects with broad reach, especially those involving audiences, participants, collaborators, and/or coproduction partners outside of the University of Iowa. The maximum award will be $2,500. Cost sharing from the applicant’s department is encouraged where applicable. Subventions will not be awarded to faculty who already have sufficient travel or production funds available through normal department allocations or in their contracted research support. All funds should be spent by June 30, 2022.

Definitions
Subvention: the provision of assistance or financial support.
