Nominations are now being accepted for the Lola Lopes Award for Undergraduate Student Advocacy.

Each year, the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost honors a current University of Iowa administrator, staff member, or faculty member (in a non-teaching role) with the Lola Lopes Award. The award is intended to recognize someone who supports undergraduate education and who serves as a strong, effective advocate for undergraduate students.

The recipient of the award will receive a $1,000 honorarium and certificate, and the recipient's name will be added to a plaque displayed in the Admission Visitors Center where prospective students and parents can see the importance we place on undergraduate students and their educational experience.

Nomination Process

All current faculty, staff, and students are welcome to make nominations, which include:

  • An online nomination form
  • A letter describing the nominee's efforts, achievements, and distinction that makes them an effective advocate for undergraduate students
  • Two letters of support addressing specific ways the nominee has supported undergraduate education and advocated for undergraduate students

Instructions for how to nominate and a link to the nomination form are available online.

Eligibility and Deadlines

All current UI administrators, staff, and faculty in a non-teaching role are eligible for the award. Nominations are due by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, 2023
