Each spring the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences selects two eligible graduating students to receive the “Dean’s Achievement Award.” Nominated undergraduate students must be eligible for services from the Center for Diversity and Enrichment (CDE). Students who graduated in December 2018 or who will graduate in May or July 2019 are eligible for nomination. The awards will be made at the Center for Diversity and Enrichment Graduation Reception on Friday, May 10, 2019 from 3:00 pm - 5:30 pm in the Main Ballroom, Iowa Memorial Union.                     

The College looks upon the nomination process as an opportunity for individual faculty who teach, advise, and often mentor students in the major department to indicate students they consider deserving of special awards and recognition. There is no obligation for faculty to forward a nomination if they do not know the student/the student’s work or feel that such recognition is not warranted.

These students should have made significant contributions to the university or surrounding communities through their vision and action. In addition, the students should demonstrate responsibility, inspiration and diligence, and good judgment. The selection committee is interested in the student’s academic accomplishments within and beyond the major; special honors, scholarships; activities and volunteering (on and off campus). 

The names and UI email addresses of currently enrolled CLAS students who are graduating CDE clients with eligible grade point averages will be provided to DEOs in a separate message. Please note that nominees should have a minimum 3.30 University of Iowa and Cumulative grade point average. Although all will have completed 120 semester hours by May or August 2019, we ask for your help in verifying with students whether they are planning to graduate at that time.
