Call for 2018 CLAS Alumni Fellows - Nominations due February 15
Do you have a successful and exemplary alum whom you’d like to bring to campus for two days to meet with students, talk to classes, and deliver a campus-wide lecture?
Please consider nominating him or her as a 2018 CLAS Alumni Fellow.
The CLAS Alumni Fellows program honors and recognizes alumni for their outstanding contributions to society and their professions.
The 2018 Fellows’ visits can be scheduled at a time during the 2018-19 academic year that is convenient for the Fellow and the host department. The College will pay for airfare, three nights of lodging, and meals for the Fellows, using funds from the UI Alumni Association Dean’s Chair; CLAS will also promote the public events. The Fellow is publicly recognized and presented with a plaque by the Dean at his or her public lecture/presentation.
The 2017 Fellows included David Conley (Cinematic Arts), Executive Visual Effects Producer at Weta Digital, one of the world’s premier cinematic visual-effects companies; Dawn Ainger (Computer Science), award-winning entrepreneur and Chairman and CEO of software developer Genova Technologies; and Mary Bennett (History), Special Collections Coordinator at the State Historical Society of Iowa.
To see what hosting an Alumni Fellow can mean for your department, please see this article about David Conley’s visit to Cinematic Arts: https://clas.uiowa.edu/news/clas-alumni-fellow-visual-effects-producer-david-conley-leaves-big-impact-cinematic-arts-clas.
If you would like to bring a distinguished alum to campus as a CLAS Alumni Fellow, please send the name, degree, and one or two sentences about his or her career achievements to Lisa Gray at firstname.lastname@example.org by February 15. Our Strategic Communications team will then work with you to compile materials for consideration by the CLAS deans.
