This spring, ACE teaching evaluations will be sent to students, but the results will not be used for decisions related to promotion and tenure because of the difficulties inherent in this semester.

  • This is a campus-wide decision and applies to all UI colleges and faculty members.
  • Please share this information with all instructors and teaching assistants, assuring them that the lack of ACE evaluations for one semester should not affect their status or future, given the general situation nationally.

Because it is more time consuming to cancel the ACE forms than to release them, students will still receive ACE evaluations but will not be automatically reminded to respond to them, with very few students expected to fill out the ACE evaluations.

  • For these reasons, ITS will not accommodate faculty requests for revisions or additions of ACE questions.
  • Please do not remind students to fill out the ACE forms and do not schedule a time for students to complete them.
  • Faculty are instead encouraged to use the ACE survey tool to collect unofficial, anonymous feedback if helpful to the instructor. These unofficial surveys are never included in ACE statistics or summaries.

Instructors may also want to let students know that UI will send out a general survey to all students to help learn how UI can better respond in a crisis. The survey will not address individual courses but the general move to online learning and the handling of the closure of UI after Spring Break.

Please let me know your questions and concerns.
