College of Liberal Arts and Science Strategic Initiative Proposals: Building Excellence and Impact

Call for Proposals
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is seeking strategic initiative proposals that will position the College and Departments for excellence and impact and enhance the educational and research mission of the University.  The College remains committed to furthering the strategic priorities of Departments and Units, and through this call, approximately 5-7 proposals will be funded.  Submitted proposals should align with the strategic plan of the Department or Unit and articulate how the initiative will advance Departmental and/or College priorities.  Proposals related to diversity, equity, and inclusion are highly encouraged.  The proposals should identify how the initiative is sustainable beyond the funding period.  Proposals related to the following areas are of particular interest:

  • Development of writing and communication initiatives
  • Seed dollars to promote opportunities for student success
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives
  • Expanded research opportunities for First Generation or URM students
  • Seed proposals that will lead to new sources of revenue for Departments
  • Enhanced career opportunities prepare students for careers in a global society
  • Interdisciplinary collaborations

The strategic initiatives can be funded for up to two years, with total budgets not exceeding $200,000 over the course of the funding period.  Proposals are due September 1, 2020 with funding decisions made by November 15, 2020. 

Proposal Requirements:

  1. Overview (1 paragraph)
  2. Description of Strategic Initiative (3 pages)
  3. Integration into strategic plan and strategic priorities (1 page)
  4. Sustainability plan post-funding (1 page)
  5. Evaluation metrics of success (1 pages)
  6. Timeline
  7. Budget

Evaluation Criteria

  1. Alignment with strategic priorities
  2. Contribution to advancing the College
  3. Sustainability of the initiative post funding
  4. Engagement with other Departments and/or Colleges.
  5. Metrics of success
  6. Integration of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
