Brandon McCasland is a media studies Ph.D. candidate and teaching assistant in the University of Iowa's department of communication studies. As a media studies scholar invested in the critical politics of cultural studies, McCasland often writes about counterpublic media practices. He also writes about the relationships between independent musicians, music industries, and the internet.
Before coming to Iowa, McCasland worked as an instructor and forensics coach at Minnesota State University, Mankato. He earned his M.A. in communication studies from the University of Alabama in 2014.
