Colloquium: Ruth Scodel, Homeric Attribution and Divine Causation or How to Explain a Chariot Crash
Please join us on Tuesday, March 12 for our first Classics Colloquium of the Spring! Ruth Scodel, D.R. Shackleton-Bailey Collegiate Professor of Greek and Latin at the University of Michigan, will be giving a talk titled “Homeric Attribution and Divine Causation or How to Explain a Chariot Crash” at 5:00pm in 101 Becker Communication Studies Building.
This talk looks at athletic competition and battle in Homer as the best analogies for modern situations in which we give reasons why people, including ourselves, succeed or fail in what we attempt, and at the relative importance of aptitude, effort, task difficulty, luck, and divine help.
