2015 Alum Jesse Kreitzer Presents "Caregivers" with VSO's Made in Vermont Statewide Tour
The Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival, Vermont Symphony Orchestra and Middlebury College's Mahaney Center for the Arts presented an exclusive first look at Jesse Kreitzer's latest film Caregivers, a documentary hybrid about eldercare in the hills of rural Vermont. Currently in development, Kreitzer and composer Paul Dedell gave a behind-the-scenes look at the creative and conceptual evolution of the project, pairing film excerpts with an original score performed by a live chamber ensemble.
Kreitzer will continue production on the feature-length version of Caregivers through 2018 and intends to tour the finished film with live orchestration to rural and medically-underserved communities with a pay-what-you-can ticketing model.
Presenting clips from previous films, Kreitzer discussed the documentary hybrid production model employed on Caregivers. Rooted in traditions of neorealist cinema, Kreitzer is working alongside actual home health aids and clients to capture authentic and intimate exchanges.
Featuring a new original score by composer Paul Dedell, this personal documentary details filmmaker Jesse Kreitzer's painstaking frame-by-frame restoration of a decayed roll of 8mm family footage.
Kreitzer and Dedell will present selections from the program as part of the VSO's Made in Vermont Statewide Tour from September 20-26.
