Andrew Owens’ teaching and research interests include screen historiography, LGBTQ/critical race theory, genre studies, and media industry studies. His book project, Desire After Dark: Contemporary Queer Culture and Occultly Marvelous Media (forthcoming from Indiana University Press), constructs a cultural and industrial history of queer occult media from the 1960s to the present.
Dr. Owens' work has been published in Feminist Media Studies and Television and New Media, and is also forthcoming in New Review of Film & Television Studies, The Comedy Studies Reader (University of Texas Press), New Directions in Queer Horror Film and Television (University of Wales Press), and Twenty-First-Century Gothic: An Edinburgh Companion (Edingurgh University Press).
Dr. Owens has previously held teaching appointments at Northwestern University, DePaul University, and Boston College. He holds a B.A. from Swarthmore College, an M.A. from Villanova University, and a Ph.D. from Northwestern University.
