Alex Denison is a PhD candidate in Film Studies. He received his dual master’s in Cinema & Languages from Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Messina in Italy. This included 8 months of study in Sicily and 6 months in southern Spain. He received his bachelor’s degrees in Cinema and English from Virginia Commonwealth University. His graduate thesis focused on the inseparability of political ideology and cinematographic innovation in early 20th century film history. His current research interests include Hollywood from the 30s to the 60s (particularly centering on European directors immigrating to America during World War II), Weimar cinema and culture, figural thinking, and Italian cinema and language.
