The anthropology department offers a variety of classes to undergraduate and graduate students. Each semester, we offer five introductory courses designed to give beginning students a taste of the field: Cultural Anthropology, Human Origins, World Archaeology, Language, Culture, and Communication, and Issues in Anthropology. The rest of the curriculum builds on this foundation, branching out to focus in-depth on special topics and geographic areas.
Classes numbered 1000 through 2000 are targeted at undergraduate students, while those from 3000-4999 attract a mix of undergraduates and graduates. Graduate student courses are numbered 5000 and above, although Honors students can request permission to enroll at this level. Take a look at MyUI to see what is offered in the semester of interest.
Our department also offers an archaeological field school every summer (4-week session in Iowa City).
