Des Moines Internship Program (DMIP) Spring 2013 Launch!
The Department of Political Science is excited to introduce our new Des Moines Internship Program (DMIP). This program gives political science students the opportunity to live and take UI classes in Des Moines for the semester while interning in one of many positions in business, non-profits, and government and politics. The DMIP affords juniors and seniors in political science the opportunity to gain real-world working experience, make important connections, and build their leadership skills and resumes while working toward the completion of their major.
The program will launch with an inaugural class of up to 10 interns in Spring 2013. Interns will enroll in two political science classes – 030:187 “Political Science Des Moines Internship” with Martha Kirby and 030:188 “Perspectives on Contemporary Iowa” with Prof. Kelly Shaw. The content of both classes will facilitate students’ experience with the internship program. The rest of the time will be spent interning in the student’s chosen job. Political science will recommend internship opportunities through our department connections from which students can choose.
We hope to send our best and brightest junior and senior political science majors to this program! If you are interested, please contact either the Advisor for Political Science, Martha Kirby (firstname.lastname@example.org) or the Director of Undergraduate Studies for Political Science, Tracy Osborn (email@example.com). Students interested in the program can also attend one of two information sessions about the program on October 17th and October 19th. Check back for times and locations of these sessions.
