H. Glenn Penny

University of Iowa History Professors H. Glenn Penny and Stephen Warren have both authored books on the 2015 list of Outstanding Academic Titles through Choice: Current Reviews for Academic Libraries, a magazine reviewing scholarly books and resources.

Penny is a professor in the Department of History, and Warren has a joint appointment in History and American Studies, both part of the UI College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. Penny’s book, Kindred by Choice: Germans and American Indians Since 1800, explores Germans’ sense of affinity for American Indian culture.

Stephen WarrenWarren’s book, The Worlds the Shawnees Made: Migration and Violence in Early America, discusses the American Indian Shawnee Tribe’s difficult migration amid disease, dislocation, and violence. Both books were published by the University of North Carolina Press.

Choice is produced by the Association of College & Research Libraries, a division of the American Library Association. Choice reviews about 7,000 titles yearly, all of which are considered for the Outstanding Academic Titles list. Fewer than 10 percent of reviewed titles make the list.
