Faculty at ConvocationEach year, the UI welcomes first-year students to campus at Convocation. The entire class of 2019 is invited to this opening ceremony where the UI emphasizes to first-year students the academic expectations first introduced during the On Iowa! orientation program. Students learn the importance of becoming a student at the University of Iowa and the important principles for succeeding in the classroom and beyond. The event features remarks by University Administrators and an entering first-year student, and culminates with a block party at the President's residence. Watch a video of On Iowa! and Convocation.

Faculty participation plays a big part in the success of the event is; the event holds much more meaning when the students see faculty in full academic regalia in attendance. CLAS faculty are invited to be part of Convocation 2015, which will be held on Sunday, August 23, on the east side of the Old Capitol. Participating faculty will gather in the Old Capitol Rotunda between 3:30 and 3:45 p.m. (line up at 4:00).  Convocation begins at approximately 4:10 p.m. and lasts for about 45 minutes.
