The Department of Health and Human Physiology offers four distinct undergraduate majors. These majors are designed to prepare students for a range of pursuits, including careers in health-related fields and graduate training in the health professions and biomedical research.
The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Human Physiology appeals to students who want a strong background in the sciences, in related cognate areas, and through hands-on laboratory experiences. This competitive-admission degree is intended for undergraduate students who wish to pursue rigorous study of human physiological systems with career interests in the health professions (e.g., medicine, physical therapy, dentistry) or biomedical research.
The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Health and Human Physiology has two academic plans of study (or “tracks”) from which students must select: 1) a competitive-admission track in Health Promotion, or 2) an open-admission track in Health Studies. Both tracks provide a range of educational opportunities for students, offering flexible options in the high demand area of bio-behavioral health. This degree will prepare undergraduates for careers in health education, wellness, public and global health, and other service-oriented careers in the health sciences.
[Note: Students may earn a major in health and human physiology (B.A.) or a major in human physiology (B.S.), but not both.]
The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Athletic Training prepares students for career opportunities in clinical settings, as well as high school or college athletic training service settings.
The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Leisure Studies has three tracks from which undergraduate students must choose. The Therapeutic Recreation track prepares students for employment as recreational therapists in both clinical and community-based settings with a wide variety of populations. Child Life is a health-oriented profession dedicated to improving the wellbeing and growth of children. The Recreation and Sport Business track prepares students for careers in campus or municipal recreation, athletic administration, event management, and health and fitness clubs.
