The UI Japanese language program offers instruction in beginning to advanced courses.

To enroll in courses beyond the first year, students must obtain a special permission code. 

  • Students whose previous Japanese language course was taken at the UI should obtain the permission code from the instructor in charge of the course in which they seek to register.
  • Returning UI students whose most recent course was taken at another institution, as well as transfer students and new UI students, must take a placement test and bring the results to the instructor in charge of the course in which they seek to enroll.
