Brady Campbell '15

Waukee, IA
class of 2015 student Brady Campbell

Major: Biochemistry
Minor: Spanish

Why did you choose your major?
I have always been interested in medicine, and this seemed like the best path to take. The major offers a lot of freedom to take any science classes that I want so I can enjoy all of my classes.

What campus organizations and activities are you involved in?
Hope 4 Africa, Deans Student Advisory Committee, Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, Alcohol Free Programming Committee/Fraternal Activities Committee, Medicus

What have some of your favorite classes been outside of your major?
Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. I find religious studies very interesting, because it opens up your point-of-view to how so many other people view the world. Plus, this is an area that most people are very uneducated about.

Have you participated in research projects with faculty members?
Yes, in the Biochemistry department under Professor Adrian Elcock. We are a computational lab that does computer simulations involving the inside of the cell. I worked on projects involving dinucleotide simulations inside of a cell and how they react. This semester I have started simulating dipeptide simulations to see how those react in the cell. This is all in hopes of developing force fields so that we can simulate the entire inside of a cell.

What advice would you give to a first-year student?
Find organizations to get involved with. This will make you feel more connected to the University and is also a great way to meet people. Also, try to develop time management skills as quickly as possible. College is completely different from high school, and adjusting is difficult no matter who you are. If you are able to balance your time and be productive, this will help you in all aspects of your college career.

What are your post-graduation plans?
Hopefully go to medical school.
